Market Harborough is preparing a bid to become the UK’s first ever Town of Culture - and it’s an exciting moment for the town.

The government has launched the competition to boost local pride and promote local creativity, with the winning town receiving £3m and two runners-up awarded £250,000 each. Harborough District Council is working with Creative Harborough in developing the bid, which will showcase the creativity already thriving here, from music and film to crafts, talks and community events taking place across the town.

Creativity has always been part of Market Harborough’s story, shaped by local people, groups and venues over many years. Through the Creative Harborough network, all of this activity is brought together in one place, making it easier for people to discover what’s happening and get involved. This bid isn’t about inventing something new - it’s about celebrating what’s already here, shining a light on the creativity on our doorstep, and encouraging even more people to be part of it.

Why not keep warm this winter with a little creativity!

We have an excellent selection of seasonal events, including music, arts, and heritage activities in Market Harborough – a small town with a big creative heart.

Research consistently shows that taking part in creative activity supports mental wellbeing, reduces stress, and helps us feel more connected – something explored in our recent article Filling Your Cup – The Power of Local Creativity. The piece reflects what many of us already know instinctively: creativity doesn’t just entertain us, it nourishes us.

We’ve worked closely with Market Harborough’s creative community to ensure there’s something for everyone, regardless of age, experience, or creative confidence. Whether you find yourself singing, throwing pots, writing, or soaking up the atmosphere at a gig or concert, these events offer more than a night out – they’re opportunities to slow down, feel inspired, and reconnect with yourself and others. Which will you choose?

Download the Winter 2026 leaflet or visit the Events page to discover what’s on and start planning your autumn diary.

From pottery to blues music, storytelling to steel drums, there’s an extraordinary range of local activities that support wellbeing, spark curiosity, and invite you to learn something new, rekindle old skills, or simply enjoy being part of a creative community.
